How To Discern Mysteries In The Word

We Understand the Mysteries in the Bible

Through the Ministry of the Holy Spirit

Understand Tongues & Prophecy

With the Following Two Scripture Passages

1 Corinthians 14:1-3

Authorized (King James) Version

14 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:

for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

1 Corinthians 13:1-2

Authorized (King James) Version

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity,

I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge;

and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

The Subject Verse

A Faithful Man

Proverbs 20:6

Authorized (King James) Version

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness:

But a faithful man who can find?

This is a verse that I've read hundreds of times since I got saved in 1991. The word that men focus on is in sub verse B, "faithful". This sub verse is saying that faithful men are hard to find, and I've always heard it since the first time that I heard this verse, that it is talking about a man being faithful to a wife in a marriage.

But today, without all the interpretations of men to clutter the voice of the Lord, I finally heard what the Spirit said that this verse means. It doesn't solely mean that faithful men in marriage are hard to find. It means that too but only as a by meaning. That is not the point. A faithful man being faithful in marriage is the by meaning of this verse. But first, before I tell you what this verse is talking about, I want to show you how the Lord revealed its meaning to me.

The Holy Spirit Reveals Mysteries

By Reminding You of Scriptures About that Mystery

You can understand a verse by looking at other passages about it. Like a word search, when you study the Bible, all the verses that talk about that one word come to mind from the Holy Spirit in your heart. This is called the Voice of God. The Holy Spirit is speaking His word to your mind via your memory.

John 14:26

Authorized (King James) Version

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name,

he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,

whatsoever I have said unto you.

In order for the Holy Spirit to work with your memory like this, you first have to be in the word studying it all the time. When you study the Bible, it goes down into the heart through your eyes.

Proverbs 4:20-22

Authorized (King James) Version

20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

We are Bible workers. Not just students. Our job with God is to study the Bible so that God can use us to preach and teach His word.

2 Timothy 2:15

Authorized (King James) Version

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,

rightly dividing the word of truth.

That said, when your heart is full of scripture from study, it begins to talk to you because it is alive. The Bible is the living and breathing word of God.

2 Timothy 3:15-17

Authorized (King James) Version

15 and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures,

which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God,

and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,

for instruction in righteousness:

17 that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Hebrews 4:12

Contemporary English Version

12 God's word is alive and powerful! It is sharper than any double-edged sword.

His word can cut through our spirits and souls and through our joints and marrow,

Until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts.

Proverbs 6:20-23

21st Century King James Version

20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother.

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee;

when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light;

and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

When scripture enters your heart, salvation and the baptism into the Holy Spirit are sure to come next. If you want to get saved, just pick up a Bible and start reading it. God sees you doing this and soon, He will meet you in the baptism into the Holy Spirit.

Thus, when scripture and the Holy Spirit enter your heart, the Holy Spirit will bring scriptures to your memory that pertain to any word that you study about.

For example, in this study subject Pr. 20:6. This is what happened to me when I was reading Pr. 20. The Holy Spirit brought scriptures to my memory when I read verse 6 that made me understand what God is saying in this verse. The Bible interprets itself.

2 Peter 1:20-21

Authorized (King James) Version

The Bible Interprets Itself

20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man:

but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

So, I will give you the scriptures too that God gave me to make you understand what this verse is saying.

Scripture Paraphrase of Pr. 20:6

Contrasting Subjects Reveal the Meaning

God is Talking About Salvation

In Pr. 20:6

Proverbs 20:6

Authorized (King James) Version

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness:

But a faithful man who can find?

There are two subjects in this verse. In sub verse A, the subject is a man who proclaims his own goodness. In sub verse B, the subject is a faithful man. So, how does a faithful man contrast a man who proclaims his own goodness?

First Holy Ghost Insight

A Godly Man is Superior to a Wicked Man

We can see then that this verse is not talking about a man who is faithful to his wife in marriage. This verse is saying that a faithful man is superior to and is the opposite of a man who proclaims his own goodness.

1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Authorized (King James) Version

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Second Holy Ghost Insight

First Revelation of the Spirit

To Sub Verse A

The Holy Spirit took the word "proclaim" in front of my eyes and put the word "boasting" in my mind and then tied a scripture to it from my memory of scriptures. This is what the Holy Spirit says from scripture about a man who proclaims his own goodness:

Scripture Study on the Word

"Boasting"

Ephesians 2:8-9

Authorized (King James) Version

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:

It is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast.

Romans 10:3-4

Authorized (King James) Version

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Romans 11:17-21

Authorized (King James) Version

17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree,

wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

18 boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. 19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.

20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith.

Be not highminded, but fear {God}: 21 for if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

Romans 3:20-28

21st Century King James Version

A Man Cannot Proclaim His Own Good Works Before God

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law, no flesh shall be justified in His sight,

for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is manifested,

being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,

22 even the righteousness of God, which is by faith of Jesus Christ,

unto all and upon all those who believe. For there is no difference,

23 for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,

24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

25 Him God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood,

to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

26 to declare, I say, at this time, His righteousness: that He might be just,

and the justifier of him that believeth in Jesus.

27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? Nay, but by the law of faith.

28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.

Third Holy Ghost Insight

Second Revelation of the Spirit

To Sub Verse B

The Lord made me understand what the word "faithful" is talking about in sub verse B by explaining to me what He means by a man who proclaims his own goodness in sub verse A. I know you see it too...how would you paraphrase the word "faithful" in contrast to a man who proclaims his own goodness?

In contrast to a man who proclaims his own goodness apart from the salvation (grace & faith) of God, a faithful man would mean "faithful to God" and not solely a man faithful to his wife in marriage.

If a man is damned to hell because he proclaims his own goodness in the face of God's grace and Blood on the Cross, then a faithful man in contrast to a boaster, is a man who is a doer of God's word instead of doing his own goodness (Jms. 1:22-27). A faithful man of God who lives by faith (Rom. 1:17/ Gal. 2:20; 3:11/ Heb. 10:38). To live by faith means to obey God's words and the Bible (Rom. 1:17/ 2 Cor. 5:7). Thus, the Holy Spirit brought the following scriptures to my memory from the bounty of God's word in my heart about being faithful to God.

Scripture Study on the Word

"Faithful"

1 Corinthians 4:1-2

Authorized (King James) Version

Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Matthew 24:44-46

Authorized (King James) Version

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household,

to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

Matthew 25:14-30

Authorized (King James) Version

14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lords money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 and I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

3 John 5-6

Authorized (King James) Version

Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

6 which have borne witness of thy charity before the church:

whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

2 Corinthians 3:1-6

Authorized (King James) Version

Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? 2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: 5 not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6 who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

A man who is faithful to God is also faithful to a wife in marriage. A faithful man of God is hard to find because many are called but few are chosen. Broad is the way that leads to hell, and many go in it. But narrow is the way to heaven and there are few who find it.

Matthew 7:13-14

Authorized (King James) Version

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way,

which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 22:1-14

Authorized (King James) Version

22 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, 2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 3 and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 6 and the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Malachi 2:10-16

New Living Translation

A Call to Faithfulness

A Man That is Faithful to the Lord

is also Faithful to his Wife

10 Are we not all children of the same Father? Are we not all created by the same God?

Then why do we betray each other, violating the covenant of our ancestors?

11 Judah has been unfaithful, and a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. The men of Judah have defiled the Lord’s beloved sanctuary by marrying women who worship idols. 12 May the Lord cut off from the nation of Israel every last man who has done this and yet brings an offering to the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

13 Here is another thing you do. You cover the Lord’s altar with tears, weeping and groaning because he pays no attention to your offerings and doesn’t accept them with pleasure. 14 You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows.

15 Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. 16 “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”

Thus, the Holy Spirit used my memory to tell me what Pr. 20:6 is talking about. I learned its meaning because other scriptures came to my memory from my heart by the Holy Spirit by reading the words in that verse, and those passages explained what the verse means. This is called the voice of God, and this is how God teaches His children truth.

John 6:44-47

Authorized (King James) Version

44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him:

and I will raise him up at the last day.

45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. 46 Not that any man hath seen the Father,

save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

(John 14:26; 15:26; 16:7-15)

John 14:26

Authorized (King James) Version

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name,

he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 15:26

Authorized (King James) Version

26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father,

even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John 16:7-15

Authorized (King James) Version

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away,

the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:

for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:

and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine,

and shall shew it unto you.

All these things in John chapters 14 through 16 the Holy Spirit does to teach us truth,

as He did with this post. There is a difference between using a concordance to find scriptures and when the Holy Spirit does it. A concordance and the Holy Spirit do the same thing with words in the Bible. A Concordance lists words used in the Bible and gives references to the instances they are used throughout entire biblical text. The Holy Spirit also does this with our memory except that the scripture references that the Holy Spirit gives to your memory are specific to your situation. But they are random and in alphabetical order in a concordance.

For example, with Pr. 20:6 the subject verse of this post. The Holy Spirit gave specific scripture references for the word "boasting". He brought these specific scripture passages to my memory. Eph. 2:8, 9, Rom. 3:20-28; 10:3, 4; 11:17-21. These passages said that to proclaim your own goodness in Pr. 20:6 means that you are boasting about your works being better than the grace & blood of God to save you. But if you got out a concordance, you would get every scripture passage from the Old to the New Testament on the word "boasting". You would have to find references specific to your subject. The Holy Spirit does that for you because the messages we write are His teachings.

Recommendation to Memorize Scripture Verses

John 15:1-17

Authorized (King James) Version

15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. 9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Fathers commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. 17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

1 John 2:13-14

Authorized (King James) Version

13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children,

because ye have known the Father.

14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning.

I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

1 John 2:27-28

Authorized (King James) Version

27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you,

and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things,

and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

1 John 3:6

Authorized (King James) Version

6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

1 John 3:23-24

Authorized (King James) Version

23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ,

and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him.

And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
